Desmond is a partner in Rodyk IP, and has been with the firm since 2015. He had graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Magna Cum Laude) from Singapore Management University in 2014, and was also placed on the Dean’s List for his final year of study.

Desmond’s area of practice primarily focuses on intellectual property, telecommunication, media and technology laws. He has expertise on patent and trademark registration matters, infringement and counterfeiting actions, commercialisation of intellectual property rights, border enforcement measures, and companies’ compliance with broadcasting, competition and data protection laws.

Desmond is currently assisting on several litigation matters before the Singapore Courts involving patent infringement. He has also drafted and reviewed trade mark licensing agreements, patent and trade mark assignment agreements, data centre and hosting agreements, software agreements and end-user license agreements. Desmond has been recognised as a rising star in Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars 2018.

  • Confidential client: Advising a global pest control company on the intellectual property aspects arising out of its acquisition of a Singapore-based pest control company.
  • Confidential client: Advising a worldwide chocolatier company on termination of its local franchisee due to default of the franchisee’s obligations.
  • Confidential client: Acted for a large Singapore pre-school company in defending against trademark invalidation allegations.
  • Confidential clients: Advised several Small and Medium Enterprises (“SMEs”) on IP strategy and commercialisation, with a focus on licensing of patents and trademarks.

  • Confidential clients: Managing trademark portfolios spanning several countries for prominent Small and Medium Enterprises (“SMEs”).
  • Confidential clients: Carrying out patent prosecution for several major pharmaceutical companies.
  • Confidential clients: Advising several SMEs on IP strategy and commercialisation, with a focus on licensing of patents and trademarks.

IP contentious

  • Confidential clients: Represented three of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies in the Singapore High Court, in relation to disputes involving patent infringement and validity.
  • Confidential client: Defending a global pharmaceutical company in a patent revocation proceeding relating to a blockbuster drug at the Singapore’s Patents Registry.
  • Confidential client: Defending a major wine producer in a trademark opposition proceeding at the Singapore Trademarks Registry.
  • Confidential client: Successfully opposed a collective mark application at the Singapore Trademarks Registry. The Registry noted that this is Singapore’s first collective mark opposition proceedings.
  • Confidential client: Acting for a global entertainment company in the seizure of counterfeit goods at the Singapore borders.
